Traffic, Traffic, Traffic
Building a blog and entering a steady stream of quality content is just he first two steps in having a successful blog. In offline real estate you often hear the mantra “location, location, location”. Well, online, what decides success or failure after delivering quality content and user experience is the amount of traffic you can generate to your site. The more targetted that traffic can be, the better.
There are no magic bullets for what generates traffic. I’ve had days where traffic starts to show up and I have no idea why except somewhere along the line one of the methods I’ve used has generated some traffic. That traffic might continue on a regular basis or be a one off stream. So, you really do have to explore as many ways as you can to generate traffic.
Bitten By the Idea Virus Yet?
Have you been bitten by an ideavirus?
Have you started one for yourself?
Do you know what an ideavirus is?
Do you know how to spread one once you start it?
In today’s market, especially on the internet, success isn’t as much about having bigger, better, smarter, cooler ‘stuff’. It is about being able to market that ‘stuff’ in a way that the consumer will market it to others. When they do that, you win with better marketing because marketing is about spreading ideas and ideas are what we have left to compete with.
Resource Pages Added
While I’ve not been posting a lot of articles lately, I have been doing some work on the blog. Sort of feel like the little church mouse that moves around the site but doesn’t show up a lot. If you take a look at the Pages list you’ll see a couple of them starting with RES: and then a topic. These are the resource pages which contain links to sites which you may find helpful.
10 Ways to Fail at Article Marketing
I’ve been exploring doing some article marketing. To read some of the gurus it is just the easiest thing in the world to write a few articles and fire them up to the article directories. Gets you lots of links from those directories and any sites that use the articles will be giving you links. Sounds like a lazy person’s ride to riches.
I happened across a free resource the other day which put a dose of reality into the glowing reports. You see a graphic on the right linking you there so you can get your own copy. It’s called “10 Article Killers” and is the what not to do counter to the gurus that make it sounds like easy street.
What is a Blog and Why Would You Want One?
A blog is a short-cut name for a weblog. It used to be known only as an online journal where angst-ridden teens vent out their daily rants and raves. Voyeurism became the fad. One started to become “someone†through blogging. No talent scout needed, no silver spoon in one’s mouth upon birth required. All you need is a trusty computer, some typing skills, the urge to write just about anything, and voila! You can create your own blog!
Writing Quality Content
Araon Wall over at SEO Book has written an excellent piece on writing content, he examines optimal word count, length and the considerations for search engine optimization. I especially like his comments about writing tightly. Actually, he uses the phrase, omit words. It means if you can effectively say something with three words, don’t use ten.
I’ve read some interesting articles on content writing. I find it interesting that few if any mention that you really need to take enough care to spell and use words correctly. I have never passed a grammar class in my life but it doesn’t take much to recognize a poorly structured sentence. I can tolerate the odd spelling mistake, especially if they appear to be more of a typo than a real mistake. One thing that is just like nails on a chalkboard when I’m reading is the misuse of words.
