Directory Submission And Its Benefits For Online Marketing

– Guest Column

What Are Directories?

A directory is a collection of information pertaining to various websites. This information is hand picked and chosen by directory editors and website inclusion is dependent on the quality and relevance of each particular site. Directories are divided into categories and, in most cases, subcategories; each contains links to relevant websites. Once information has been collected and collated it is then searched by human visitors. The major search engines use directories to help determine relevance. As well, a listing in a directory may count as a link to the listed websites.

Do it NOW!

– Rosalind Gardiner, guest column

There is nothing more precious than time. Not money, nor love. Without time, the others don’t exist.

Knowing that, how do we spend our time? Do we recognize its unstoppable passage and make the most of each valuable moment?

Some do. Most of us, however, do not.

If we were to equate time spent frivolously with money lost, would we spend it more wisely?

Maybe – maybe not.

When I started my eBusiness in 1998, one of the first things I did to get traffic was to submit my site to Yahoo! Back then, Yahoo! listings were free, the directory was much smaller and getting huge traffic numbers from them was easy.

Pretty soon, my site was generating sales left, right and center.

September Overview

Well, it has been an interesting month. This business of establishing a business on the web can be a lot of work. Most of it is reading, exploring and of course liberal application of the bullshit meter. It takes a lot of time and processing to really start to be able to filter out the hype and find information which really does help when it comes to getting a business established.

Seems to me, this really is a numbers game. You don’t need just one site up but a series of them for a variety of reasons and topics. Once you get those sites up, you need to develop traffic to the sites. Targeted traffic would be optimal, but traffic gets eyeballs on the site. Content drives the sites, the more quality content you have the better. Once you start developing traffic, you want to monetize the sites.
