Tagging People in Facebook Status Updates

Came across an article on Mashable with described ten things you can do with your status updates on Facebook. I was particularly interested in this one:

To mention someone in a status update just type “@” (a la Twitter) in the status bar and start typing their name as it appears on Facebook. An auto-generated list will then come up with people in your social circle whose name starts with the letters you’ve typed. The feature also works with pages, brands, events and companies.

Hit the name you want, complete the update, click share and the name will become a hyperlink (you won’t see the @ symbol) and will appear in blue text

Successful Selling on Social Media

Mike Schultz over at Social Media Examiner has a great post on eight ways to successfully selling using social media. In a nutshell, here’s the points:

  1. Boil the Frog — I could explain this, but I’ll leave it for Mike. Love the analogy. Basically, don’t come on too strong
  2. Givers Gain — pretty much self-explanatory. Just give, don’t worry about the return.
  3. Make Henry Kissinger Proud — great way to do your best
  4. Be Brave
  5. Be Positive and Pleasant
  6. Prepare for Window Shopping
  7. Let Your Personality Show Through
  8. Take if Offline, When it’s Time

Do You Twitter?

If you have no idea what Twittering is, you probably are either new or you’ve been ignoring a lot going on. Twitter is a very popular microblogging site which allows you to post(tweet) 140 character ‘slices’ of what your doing as often as you want. You follow other people who are twittering and people follow you. You can post about the mundane, the insane, the ups and the downs, the pain and the joy, whatever. The idea is to share and enjoy the interaction.

I didn’t get the whole Twitter thing when I first looked at it. Primary because, like Facebook, I couldn’t see how I could find the time to keep refreshing a website so I could see what other people were doing. Then I started to discover some of the Twitter tools that were available and started to understand the draw.
