If you have no idea what Twittering is, you probably are either new or you’ve been ignoring a lot going on. Twitter is a very popular microblogging site which allows you to post(tweet) 140 character ‘slices’ of what your doing as often as you want. You follow other people who are twittering and people follow you. You can post about the mundane, the insane, the ups and the downs, the pain and the joy, whatever. The idea is to share and enjoy the interaction.

I didn’t get the whole Twitter thing when I first looked at it. Primary because, like Facebook, I couldn’t see how I could find the time to keep refreshing a website so I could see what other people were doing. Then I started to discover some of the Twitter tools that were available and started to understand the draw.

First I tried Twitterfox in Firefox and started to get it, the updates would popup in the bottom corner of the screen and I could ignore them, respond, post my own or click on whatever links were offered. When I wanted to. That I could handle but that was only good when I was working in my browser. When I had it minimized or closed, Twitter was off too.

Now, you wouldn’t be getting the idea that I was getting a tad hooked, would you?

It was when I discovered TweetDeck that I really got into Twittering. With Tweetdeck I could let Twitter run in a window on the edge of my screen. I could pay attention to what was being said or I could ignore it. I could let some things catch my eye if I wanted to but had to be careful that I didn’t get distracted. That worked for me.

So, for the last few weeks I’ve been exploring Twittering… oh yeah, that is going to become like Google, an action — not just a name. I’ll be posting some about how to use Twitter, as I learn, you’ll learn. If you are anxious to get started you may want to check out Darren Rowse’s post to his TwiTip site (yes he’s started a blog on Twittter) – 10 Hot Twitter Tips. Should keep you exploring for a while.

Let me know your favourite Twitter tool or resource.
